Welcome to the World of Pediatric Cardiology

Doctor Examining BabyAn introduction to the world of pediatric cardiology can be startlingly abrupt for many parents.  While some issues  are detected in utero giving the parents and medical staff at least a few months to prepare a post-birth medical plan, others go undetected until birth creating emergency situations.  Technological advances will undoubtedly increase the number of cases identified and accurately diagnosed prior to birth.  In fact, those advances have moved beyond early detection and diagnosis to early repairs.  In utero repair techniques are already being pioneered by the field's leading physicians.

Nevertheless, no matter when a parent learns of their child's cardiac abnormality, the news is accompanied by daunting feelings of despair.  There is so much to learn in so little time to even be able to understand what the physicians are saying and make rational decisions when faced with alternatives.

We welcome your feedback on how this site can be enhanced to better serve the goal of bringing hope to parents facing difficult pediatric cardiac situations.
